Sample Presentations & Workshops

The Core of Storytelling

Myths, Legends, Folklore, and Fairy Tales

Grades 3–12

Who doesn’t love a good myth, legend, folklore, or fairy tale? We will draw comparisons on how these classics shape books, movies, games, and the stories we love. We’ll explore patterns and themes that stretch across time and genre with practical examples of how students can use these techniques to create their own fresh stories.

The Superhero Myth

How Everyday Kids Become Heroes

Grades 3–7

Let’s explore what makes a hero and why heroes do not always look fearless, perfect, or powerful. We will discuss courage, family, friendship, fear, and the choices that can help ordinary kids be brave in their own lives.

The Art of Being Unique

Why Not Fitting In Can Be a Superpower

Grades 4–8

Let’s have a conversation on the creative power of developing your voice and imagination. Students explore how the things that make them feel unusual, misunderstood, or out of place can become a source of strength in life, storytelling, and finding their superpower in the world.

The Art of Worldbuilding

Craft Believable Worlds

Grades 5–12

A craft talk or workshop on how writers build believable worlds, from the real to the imagined. Students learn how setting, culture, history, conflict, and character choices work together to make their worlds feel alive and believable.

Writing Fantasy, Folklore & High Stakes

Create Compelling Stakes

Grades 8–12

We take a deep dive into writing stories where magic, power, and destiny shape decisions and outcomes. Students explore real-world inspiration to build character desire, choices, and consequences into stories that feel both larger than life and deeply personal.

Giving & Receiving Feedback

Critique and Revise with Confidence

Grades 6–12

A workshop on what makes feedback useful, respectful, and actionable. Students learn the difference between affirmative, constructive, directive, and observational feedback. The presentation covers how to give critique with care, how to receive notes with grace, and how to decide which feedback to incorporate into revision.

Writing Workshop: Story, Plot, Character, and Revision

Grades 5–12

Let’s roll up our sleeves and focus on craft. This workshop covers all the essentials of writing a strong story, including structure, plot, character development, worldbuilding, revision, and strengthening an idea. This session is great for students beginning new stories or revising existing work.

Book Club Q&A / Author Conversation / Craft Talk

Grades 3–12

An interactive chat with Rena about books, writing, publishing, revision, inspiration, and the questions students bring from their own reading. Have a topic that better fits your curriculum? Work with Rena to build the right session for your classroom, library, or book club.
